If you are working with and in Taiwan, it is very likely, that sooner or later you will visit also Mainland China. In this case, it is even more likely, that you will visit Shenzhen. Shenzhen- mirror counterpart of Honkong at another side from the border became one of the most booming cities in China along with Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou and Chengdu.
Shenzhen and also nearby Dongguan has so much factories, companies and industry parks, that you can be sure that Lion's share of Taiwan suppliers you are working with - at least biggest ones for sure, have their own factories in China, and mostly in Shenzhen. Enough theory though. I will argue, that in case you are reading this, that chances are that you are going to Shenzhen for business trip, because it's not a popular tourist route at all. However, there is what to see, check my other post about Shenzhen Splendid China park.
And so, if you are coming for business trip - you need:
1) Fast transit to Honkong Airport from your hotel;
2) Good area, at least some attraction for evening if your friends are busy;
3) Good view, good accommodation and so on.
I am visiting Shenzhen for years since now, and finally i found such hotel which has all in one.
First of all it's incredibly conveniently located. It's literally 2 minutes walk from She Kou sea port, which is a must be choice for transit to Hongkong airport. If you still use bus - don't! It takes 30 minutes only from She Kou port to HK airport, and what is most important - you can check in already in She Kou port and give your luggage there. While if you use bus, you will need all the annoying double border crossing - you will need leave the bus, to stand in row for passport check, keep the luggage in hands - it's terrible experience.
It was great surprise that this hotel - let me tell it's name now - Nan Hai Hotel, (click on link, if you want see their website), is so close to the port. It is so close that hotel staff. which is very helpful by the way, will hand-carry your luggage to the port and it will really take just 2 minutes.
now, if you afraid, that port area is well, "not so nice", then it's again the surprise.
And it is time to share the pictures and videos I made in and around this hotel.
First of all - the view. View is great, and just when you go in a room, go out to the balcony, and take a look around:
Yes, as you can see in this video, ferries right side are docking at Shekou port - it's literally just around the corner.
Swimming pool belongs to hotel, as well as you will get invitation to gym, and even free massage.
Ferries to Hongkong and Hongkong Airport.
I can only guess, what all of those ships are doing out here
Let's go out... hotel is not new as you can see, it celebrates it's 23'rd birthday.
Here is a picture of this hotel again - just from a distance, and I got lucky to shot it together with those guys decorating the streets for 1st May celebrations. Booming and rich - it's still China. As we all imagine it.
By the way. It makes sense to show one more such contrast, I captured in May 1st - in ports's restaurants area - one of places where nightlife goes on. Again - 5 - 7 min walk from this hotel. See this:
Indeed, it's where West meets East - Paulaner vs red flag.
OK, but let's go out from a hotel, to the nearby vibrant and always alive restaurant place, which locals for some reason calls "sea world", anyway, it's a restaurants & bars are open at night also, very likely, that if your business partners plan to bring you out for dinner at evening, they will bring you there. So, if you choose Nan Hai hotel, all you need to do, is:
..to take this street, and you are here:
Eating, shopping, souvenirs. All for foreigners - and locals. Very popular place to hang out. If you miss home already, here you will find KFC, McDonalds and Starbucks, along with other western food restaurants.
Attractions for big kids...
... and not so big.
It's a hotel in this ship along with bars and restaurants. Looks pretty nice at night time...
... and evening as well.
Remember the view from a window in this hotel, I presented at the beginning of this post? Let me show what a nice views you can get if you wake up early enough to see the sunrise in Shenzhen:
